Application Requirements

To apply for the JIM program im Darmstadt you should meet the following requirements:

  • a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Informatics, Software Engineering or any other closely related field
  • fluent in English (proven by TOEFL score by all applicants with a minimum of 88 points internet-based or IELTS of at least 6.5)
  • basic command of German. Non-native speakers need to have passed the 'Start Deutsch 2' / A2 exam (A2 is the second level of the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages" / "Kompetenzskala des Gemeinsamen europ├Ąischen Referenzrahmens f├╝r Sprachen").

Courses start each fall, i.e. beginning of October.


For students with German degree:

Students with a degree obtained outside of Germany have to apply via uni-assist. For more information have a look at our university's homepage where the application process is described. More information about uni-assist can be found online at

Do not send your application to the Computer Science Department!

The Department of Computer Science is not responsible for processing the applications. All applications have to be sent to the h_da's online application page, if you have a German undergraduate degree, or to uni-assist, if you have a foreign undergraduate degree (see above) to check the eligibility of the applicants as well as the correctness of their documents. Uni-assist will send the applications to the h_da's Student Service Center, who will in turn forward the accepted applications to our department. Then we can decide which subjects and modules can be recognized in our faculty. For more information refer to the FAQs page below.
